Tattooist and Body Piercing Waste

Tattooist & Body Piercing Waste

Your tattoo and piercing waste products

Our waste operatives are fully trained in the correct and safe handling procedures for Tattoo needles and related sharps; these items are fully regulated by strict legal guidelines to ensure that they are handled and disposed of safely and in accordance with the current regulations. Your duty of care extends to both staff and customers, so it is important that you use a company for your waste disposal who are fully appraised and updated with all current legislation regarding the handling and disposal of such items. Do not put the health and safety of your staff and customers at risk!

The regulations apply whether you are a mobile tattooist or run a thriving tattoo parlour, but we guarantee that whatever your status, we will deliver a professional tattoo waste collection service that is geared to your needs. After our initial assessment, we will provide you with the appropriate hazardous waste disposal bins together with a waste collection service that will take care of all of your business’ needs.

Can I put all of my waste in one bag?

There are many things to consider when disposing of your waste as you may have a mixture:
  • Offensive (tiger stripe sacks) for outer dressings and protective clothing, e.g. masks, gowns and gloves that are not contaminated with body fluids.
  • Hazardous (orange sacks) waste which contain human tissue, blood or other bodily fluids, excretions, swabs or dressings.
  • Needles/sharps, which need to be disposed of in UN Approved sharps boxes.

What can Kernow Clinical collect from Tattoo Parlours?

  • Tattoo needles and sharps
  • Ink caps and leftover ink
  • Leftover ointment and containers
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic protective coverings
  • Protective gloves
  • Used cotton swabs and wipes

How is Tattoo Parlour waste defined?

According to the Department of Health; tattoo needles and sharps are classed as “hazardous” and must only be disposed of in dedicated sharps receptacles with an orange lid. This is because waste tattoo needles and sharps can cause serious injury and potentially spread diseases or infections of the blood if they are not disposed of correctly.

Other tattoo-related waste is normally classed as offensive/hygiene waste by the Department of Health and should only be disposed of in accordance with the latest, stringent care and safety measures.

Other waste, including used swabs, gloves and towels must be disposed of properly, as improper disposal could lead to a variety of problems for your clients and staff, from skin infections to bacterial diseases, and with serious implications for the reputation of your business.

Kernow Clinical are specialists in the management of all types of waste in tattoo studios, ensuring that you are fully equipped and scheduled to comply fully with the Waste Management regulations.
